Only Love Heals ( The Power of Gratefulness )

Fear -> LoveLove is the vehicle for becoming what we want to be because in surrendering to love ~ we initially glimpse the beauty of who we really are.

However, to fully embrace ourselves we must go beyond the fears and the control of the ego.

This is not a painless path for the path to the soul is like walking a tightrope over a chasm of deep fear.

And the balancing rod on this perilous inner path is GRATEFULNESS.

God only reveals himself to a grateful heart and the only antidote for unworthiness and resentment is GRATEFULNESS.

Why, you ask ?

Because you must understand that all the key people on the journey of your heart could not be any different than the way they were in that , in loving them, you took another step towards finally embracing yourself ~ regardless of the outcome of these relationships.

Regardless of the pain or rejection you must see them as gifts on the path or tightrope towards becoming the person you always wanted to be ~ yourself.

The people I have loved the deepest have been my greatest teachers because , in loving that deeply, I embraced more of myself and the person I always wanted to be.

It takes great courage to surrender to the inner journey of the heart but it helps if you realize that what lies deepest within ourselves is love, joy and soul consciousness~only our self-imposed cocoon of aloneness , separation and ego consciousness keep us from this inner joy and knowledge.

Only by living my life in GRATEFULNESS do I realize how blessed I am and only then can I truly accept the gift of knowing that I am not only deeply loved but I am part of something far greater than myself.

One of the most powerful sessions I do with my clients is session five ( of seven ) where , through a visualization, they see the scores of people who have loved them and touched them in their life and the question I ask them is ~ How many of these people have you thanked in real life?

Their homework is to thank these people and when they do that they literally can feel their hearts opening .

There is not one person in my life who I have not thanked for being a gift in my life and my heart has expanded in the process.

As such, I have embraced Christ consciousness or soul consciousness from within , which is what Jesus spoke of when he said " the kingdom of heaven is within you " versus from without or externally through the bible ~ which many christian fundamentalists claim to have done.

Remember, Jesus was divinely human and a forerunner for a state of consciousness all of us will eventually surrender to .

Jesus was a man ~ Christ is the love he manifested in his life which is also deepest within each one of us (not just Jesus). This love is also a state of soul consciousness which is one in the same with my Unified field.

The humanizing of Jesus is the single most important religious step that must be taken in the eventual coming together of mankind.

And GRATEFULNESS is the path towards knowing and claiming this great inner truth.

Let me medically make this same point ~

In the December 2002 issue of Dr. Susan Lark's health newsletter ("The Lark Letter," Phillips Health, Potomac, Maryland), Susan reported groundbreaking work that has been taking place at the Institute of Heart Math in Boulder Creek, California.

As Dr. Lark explained, there is now very compelling evidence of a direct association between many indicators of good health and the positive emotion of gratitude.

Dr. Lark reported that the Institute of Heart Math claims that the heart plays a major and central role in managing distress in our lives and has a much more intricate communication pattern with the brain that does any other major organ.

What is most remarkable is Dr. Lark's assertion that the heart not only responds to any stimulus that the brain produces but that the heart also generates much more electrical power than the brain itself.

The researchers at the institute fed two groups of rabbits diets high in fat. This is not a heart-healthy diet. In one group, the rabbits were held, petted, and talked to kindly. In the other group the rabbits were not shown any such special handing or other treatment. The group of rabbits treated lovingly developed significantly less arteriosclerosis than the group treated routinely.

Researchers at the Institute of Heart Math have now developed techniques to help human patients generate feelings of sincere love, appreciation, and gratitude in order to effectively control and better synchronize pulse, respiration, and brain wave frequencies.

Later studies showed also that volunteers given training in developing habits of expressing and experiencing love, affection, and, especially, gratitude could improve the functioning of their cardiovascular, immune and hormonal systems.

Moreover, patients who learned to develop these habits reported that they found themselves much, much better able to solve daily problems and conflicts associated with their children, jobs, and rush-hour traffic.

Dr. Lark also reported that in 1995 the American Journal of Cardiology (vol.76, pp. 1089-1093, author: McCarty. R. et al.) published a study showing that learning to express and experience gratitude and appreciation could reduce blood pressure.

Based on all these and other research findings, Dr. Lark recommends using daily meditation exercises in which one sits quietly and comfortably with eyes closed and arms resting gently at one's side. Then, breathing deeply and slowly while focusing on our hearts in the center of the chest, we are advised to visualize filling our hearts with feelings of gratitude and appreciation while feeling the area of chest expand and imagine it and our hearts filling with these warm emotions.

Next Dr. Lark recommends visualizing the gratitude and appreciation radiating from ourselves to everyone who has ever helped us or nourished us in any way (family, friends, co-workers, pets, even strangers or the community in general).

She advises that we endeavor to enjoy any peaceful and calming feelings that may result.

Dr. Lark also recommends keeping a gratitude journal (also recommended by Sarah Ban Breathnach in her book "Simple Abundance"). Writing down each day at least five things one is thankful for is recommended.

And finally, Dr. Lark also suggests daily affirmations of gratitude and appreciation to fortify the habit of becoming mindful of these most important of all the positive emotions.

In addition to affirmations in which one repeats to oneself statements that one appreciates all the positive things in one's life, all the positive people and situations one has or has ever known, all the people who have been nurturing and supporting, she also recommends affirmations each day in which one reminds oneself to be grateful that one is oneself also a wonderful and worthy person and that one has a body with a healing capacity.

It is not for nothing that Cicero said that gratitude is the parent of all virtues.
